RABBIT NEWS

We have been inundated here with calls from people with unplanned litters of  baby rabbits .

PLEASE , PLEASE ,PLEASE,

if you get a pair of rabbits check their sex ....

take them to a vet ...

or contact us ...if you can bring them to us we will check their sex for you .

Rabbits can breed from 14 weeks old . A rabbit who has had a litter of kits can mate and become pregnant within minutes of giving birth .

A female rabbit can have anything up to 8 kits . In 1 month she can give birth to the same again . Another month same again .

By this time the first litter are maturing . 1 month on a another litter is born ..now any females from same litter can become pregnant ...

In 6 months you could have rather a lot of bunnies on your hands ....do the maths yourself and work it out .

Act responsibly ...get your rabbits neutered . !!! PLEASE don't add to the problem of the thousands of unwanted rabbits every year.

All rabbits rehomed by BARC are neutered / spayed .

BUNNY PAIRS

Rabbits are best kept in pairs . Of course they should be neutered . Preferably both but if not then at least the male . If you have a neutered male and an un neutered female then please be aware that a male rabbit can still be fertile up to 6 weeks after neutering , so they would have to be kept apart until his 6 weeks were up .

Rabbits need space .

We recommend a hutch AT LEAST 5ft x 2ft x 2ft . However new guidelines have now been brought in by the RSPCA for hutches even bigger than this .

PAIRS LOOKING FOR HOMES

Chrissie and Crimbo.

These beautiful bunnies were dumped at the end of last year .

They are a bit shy but lovely buns who just need lots of TLC. They are both neutered and are brother and sister and very closely bonded.
